Description

Menlyn Park Shopping Centre is an awardwinning super regional shopping centre, situated in the fast-developing Menlyn node in the capital city of Tshwane, South Africa. This multi-level centre boasts over 500 tenants, including a large base of international brands and flagship anchor stores. Menlyn Park has set a new standard of becoming the biggest centre in Africa.

“Rubio Monocoat was the ideal timber protection and finishing product for this Green Star rated retail project.

The finished timber products needed to be not only eco-friendly but also ensure durability and ease of maintenance. This was essential in such a high traffic environment. Monocoat fit the bill with its 0% VOC (Non-toxic) feature and long lasting unique molecular bonding protection, which is easy to clean and maintain. The fact that isolated scratches, or damaged areas, can easily be repaired, makes spot maintenance possible to keep the timber furniture components and timber floors in pristine condition.

As a design principle, it was important for the wood elements of the mall pause areas, to bring a natural element of warmth and texture to the colder juxtaposing finishes of engineered quartz slabs and powdercoated aluminium. The product not only emphasized the natural grain of both the solid timber and timber veneer, but promoted a richness and depth of colour that accomplished the design intent. The ease of colour mixing also allowed us to achieve the desired colour and matt finish for a natural appearance and feel.”
